The Women in the Way project continues!
Sunday, June 2, 2019 – I gave an illustrated talk about Women in the Way at Women Deliver Mobilization Canada. At the Women Deliver and Feminist Deliver conferences over 8,000 world leaders, activists, parliamentarians, journalists and young people were in Vancouver, Canada to discuss gender equality and the health, rights and well-being of women and girls.
It was an incredible week in our city!
I spoke with guests at the Longhouse Dialogues from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Nuu-chah-nulth Longhouse was in Harbour Green Park, 1199 West Cordova Street, Vancouver, BC.
“Artist and educator Sally Buck photographs women politicians, activists, and community leaders in British Columbia who are ages 50 and over. Belonging to a demographic represented infrequently in media, they are portrayed during acts of leadership and their images stylized with techniques from graphic and fine arts, to highlight each woman’s individuality, environment, focus and achievement.
The artist will tell stories of engaging with the women in the portraits, of making the artworks, and of dialoguing around them with women, the public, and with secondary students. Audience members are invited to interpret the artworks, discuss themes of gendered imagery and representations of power in art and the media, and share their experiences of learning/ collaborating with women leaders ages 50 and up.”
It was sunny and temperate by the waters of False Creek. I walked there the day prior and sat in on a Longhouse Dialogue. Luminous, generous, and stimulating.

Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada was a rallying cry for unity in gender equality and girls and women’s empowerment.
The Mobilization was created in order to ensure that real and lasting change would come out of the Women Deliver 2019 Conference in Canada. It was a vehicle for action among partners, allies and supporters from across sectors.
In order to achieve real results, the Mobilization focused on three key Action Areas where progress was most needed: Gender Responsive Health System and Services, Gender-Based Violence and Women’s Economic Empowerment and Equal Opportunity.
